ALBERTA PROBATE LAWYER FEES

Core Legal Services

The Law Society of Alberta has a suggested schedule of lawyer probate fees for core legal services in Alberta. These recommended fees consist of a “base fee” and an “estate value fee” (based on a percentage of the estate). Though these guidelines are not mandatory, they are commonly used by Probate lawyers who practice in the area of the law.

The suggested fees for core legal services are as follows:

  • Estates up to $150,000: $2,250 plus one-half a per cent (1/2%) of the value of the estate (plus disbursements and reimbursements of any costs incurred)
  • Estates over $150,000: $2,250 plus 1% of the value of the estate (plus disbursements and reimbursements of any costs incurred)

Non-Core Services
If a Personal Representative requires assistance from a Probate lawyer for more than the typical core legal services, the Probate lawyer will charge additional fees for this time, typically based on an hourly rate.

We’re Different
At JD Law, our approach to working with clients is different – and often less expensive – than what you may be used to in a different law firm. We provide you with excellent legal service, but base our fees on the complexity of your situation, rather than on a percentage of your Estate’s value. In many cases, our fees can be significantly lower than the suggested guidelines reproduced above.
Please feel free to contact us as listed below if you are in need of Probate legal services, and we’ll gladly provide you with a personalized quote.
